Basement footers are done

We ended up digging an extra foot out of the basement to get to the desired grade. This was due largely in part to a change that came as a result of the septic system moving from the walk out side to the back yard.

Our basement guy takes a bit of an unconventional approach to the basement footers. He likes to frame up the footers using 2x10's which allows the french drain to sit below the footer allowing for better drainage. It makes sense to me, however, my father in law had never seen this done in his 40 years of building. It makes sense and provides the ideal location for the french drain to sit so we rolled with it.

Here you can see a closeup of the footer which reveals a channel down the middle of the footer, this will allow the concrete from the poured wall to form a good joint preventing water seeping under the poured wall.
